Personal History
Personal History | Ize was born to a fairly typical Andorian bondgroup on Andor in 2355. She was welcomed with great joy by her parents who had failed at previous attempts to conceive a child. As such, she was properly spoiled throughout her childhood. Ever curious, Ize was a born explorer and would often find herself in trouble after wandering off from her parents. That desire to explore is what led her into Starfleet. From an early age, she knew she wanted to join Starfleet. One of her grandparents was a Starfleet engineer and she looked up to her as a role model. Like most Andorians, Ize’s eventual bondgroup was planned out and arranged by her family. She was still in school when all of the arrangements were finalised and she met her bondmates. Though they wouldn’t bond for years yet, they did spend time together and got to know each other. Ize excelled in her schooling and was accepted into Starfleet Academy on the first attempt. She said goodbye to her family and bondmates, promising to return when it was time to perform the shelthreth. Life at the Academy was eye opening for Ize. She hadn’t ever spent a lot of time with aliens and the melting pot environment of the San Francisco campus made for a rapid culture shock. She found that she didn’t feel as comfortable in the climate or among the people and, as result, began to grow more aggressive. After a few disciplinary issues, usually involving fights with other cadets, she was counselled by one of her instructors, Rohvishan th’Eqetrorh, who taught her a very effective meditation technique that moderated her aggression. During the course of her studies at the Academy, her focus shifted from exploratory to more martial pursuits and she eventually found herself drawn the Security/Tactical track. This shift was confirmed during her sophomore cruise aboard the USS Denning, which operated in the Galactic South. That cruise was a source of frustration for Ize, however, as she was aboard when the Dominion War broke out. The Denning was an old cruiser and was not redeployed to the front lines against the Jem’Hadar. Ize was itched for some action and wanted to be transferred to a front line unit, but was denied each time. She briefly considered resigning from the Academy and enlisting in the Marines, but she ultimately decided against it. Although she didn’t see any combat during the war, she was on the ground when the Breen attacked San Francisco in 2375. She earned commendations from her instructors for her work in rescuing people from rubble and helping the injured. Ize graduated in 2376 and was assigned to the new Sovereign-class USS Victory as a security officer. She would serve in the Victory for three years, being promoted to Lieutenant (JG) after two. While serving aboard the Victory, Ize was called home for the shelthreth, the ceremonial mating of her bondgroup, but she returned to duty soon after. The child of this ceremony, a chen named Eshabenar (Esha), was born the following year. Her career for the next eight years was fairly typical of a young security/tactical officer. She served in numerous postings as both a Security Officer and as a Tactical Officer. In 2384, she was accepted into a Special Operations Training course, which opened a new path for her career. Following completion of this course, she was posted to Starfleet Intelligence as an Intelligence Officer. It was in her second year at Starfleet Intelligence that news arrived that would forever change her life. In 2386, Ize’s bondmate Eyla was murdered. Eyla, who worked for the Andorian Security Force, was investigating a suspect who was linked with an Andorian nationalist organisation when the suspect stabbed and killed her. Ize and her other bondmates were devastated by Eyla’s murder. Ize took leave and returned to Andor to grieve with her loved ones. While she was there, she found that she couldn’t just sit back. She used her connections in the intelligence community and contacts in the ASF to hunt down Eyla’s killer. She personally captured him and used her authority (perhaps illegally) to interrogate him. The interrogation was thorough, but Ize was only able to get vague information about a larger organisation before he expired. Ize took that information and swore vengeance for Eyla. This quest for avenge her beloved zh’yi defines her now. After three months bereavement, she returned to active duty. At first, her role at SFI was focused primarily around analysis and strategic planning, with some ventures into the field. This aspect of her role grew over time and by 2389 she was put in command of a Special Tasks Unit. This unit was focused on counter intelligence operations against foreign powers looking to stoke discord within the Federation. During this time, her team uncovered more information about the organisation to which Eyla’s killer eluded, but still not enough to piece together a full picture. The information she was able to find pointed to activity in the Galactic South and the so-called Sojourners. In 2392, Ize was transferred to an elite team being assembled to hunt down remnants of the now defeated Sojourners. She eagerly accepted the opportunity, believing that it would bring her closer to unraveling the truth behind Eyla’s murder. |
